Autumn days come quickly, like the running of a hound on the moor. –Irish proverb As the island thins due to the visitors retreating, I find myself walking slower to take the time to notice the WOW. Do you ever do that? Seeing the small things can provide perspective, lower your blood pressure and improve your mood. Today at 12:21 P.M., we ticked off the start of the Autumnal Equinox. Hunting Bigfoot is a documentary-style film by Island director Taylor Guterson which also stars Bainbridge’s own John Green. It will open to the public on Friday (the 13th - spooky!)

$25 = Admission to the 7:15pm screening and a Q&A with director/stars afterwards in the Lynwood Theatre
$50 = All of the above + VIP open bar reception beforehand from 6pm to 7pm at Pleasant Beach Marketplace + Bigfoot swag
$100 = All of the above + reserved prime seat + entry to open bar reception at 5:30 + bigfoot swag Note: Other than $6.50 going to the film producers, proceeds from all ticket prices go to the Lynwood’s new campaign to raise money to modernize the theater.

Pirate spotted Thursday at 8:46 am at Fay Bainbridge State Park. If you, like me, have not strayed beyond your daily routine, I thought I would share a few images to entice you to visit, stay and play! Fay Bainbridge Park is a 17-acre marine camping park with 1,420 feet of saltwater shoreline on the northeast corner of Bainbridge Island. The park offers sweeping views of Puget Sound, the Cascade Mountains and features sandy beaches. On clear days, Mount Rainier and Mount Baker are visible from a sandy beach. Origin of the park name?
Like much of the island Fay Bainbridge Park was named after an early visitor. Fay was a neurosurgeon who introduced hypothermia in medical and surgical illnesses and developed rehabilitation procedures based upon analysis of phylogenetic movements. Fay taught at the University of Washington. His two children honored their father's desire to make the area a park. At the park entrance is a display of a bell donated by the Kitsap County Historical Society. This bell was purchased for the community by Port Madison citizens through public subscription to be used as a "town crier" to proclaim important events. As Port Madison needed to provide a courthouse on short notice, they converted the nearly-finished school, and the bell was placed on the old public community hall on mill property. It was later moved to A.R. Lintner's Historical Association, and it was moved to the park on March 23, 1953. Did you know there is camping at Fay Bainbridge?
Wonderful beachfront camping!
Fay Bainbridge Park is a fantastic place for a fun day trip or overnight camping. The view of Seattle and the Cascade Mountains is unparalleled! The RV spots are very welcoming and level, as are the camping/tent spots. The fire pits are nice and large at the RV and campsites. Fresh Air activities are encouraged by observing nature, taking photos, walking your dog, beach book reading, bike riding, outdoor cooking, beachcombing, horseshoes, volleyball or badminton, and good ole fashioned lounging with no purpose! Bainbridge island, natural experiences await you. "The Earth has music for those who listen."

Why is walking in the woods so good for you?
It has a calming, restorative effect on the mind. Studies show that the level of the stress hormone, cortisol, is lower when walking in nature. Regular exercise in woods or parks CAN reduce the risk of poor mental health too! When visiting Bainbridge Island, may I recommend The Grand Forest? Tucked into the middle of Bainbridge Island, this extensive network of trails is one of the most popular for folks who live around here. And with over seven miles of winding and looping trails, there is plenty to choose from. The Grand Forest is broken into three sections: the west, east, and north. The west and east are large parcels that form one continuous piece thanks to the Hilltop Connector Trail that acts as a bridge between them. The northern section is a much smaller parcel that is set off from the rest of the park without a connecting trail. Because of this, the east and west are the most visited. There are several intersecting trails and turns in this park, so it's a good idea to bring a map (find one at biparks.org). Waypoint markers along the route will help you find where you are on the map. Walk alone or with four or two-legged friends. If I am honest here, I am navigationally challenged and have promised those who love me that I won't walk alone in the Grand Forest. I find a brisk walk with friends allows for a bit of huffing and puffing while taking turns reporting on what's up in each of our worlds. However, many who pass are alone and happy to wander, so don't feel the need to call a friend; lace up your shoes and go! I love to take my time and my phone to capture the cycles of nature abundant around every grassy mound. It may seem crazy to take a phone into a GRAND FOREST, but the act of looking at the small things, the fragile things, the vulnerable things in nature can provide evidence that everything is changing even when we think it's stuck. Life has a way of pushing us through, and eventually, everything blooms again.

This time of year, we all can benefit from looking out when nature puts on a show such as this sunset. However, equal beauty exists when you look up at the sky and trees, as seen in these blooming tree blossoms. Don't forget to look down as you hurry by; no two blooms are the same, so even if you have seen one, you have not seen them all! The beauty and benefit of Bainbridge Island living is the luxury of finding these views along your path.
